The not so Friendly Giants (updated with more giants added)

Giants for SAGA Age of Magic

I have been collecting some giants for my various SAGA Age of Magic factions.  I have always had a soft spot for Giants, maybe from all those years as a child watching the Friendly Giant or Land of the Giants:

The Friendly Giant

Classic TV drama involving Giants

The Friendly Giant from the CBC
Children's show of the same name.

These giants are not so friendly and will probably be in the horde / Goblin and Orc Faction or maybe attached to a Great Kingdom human faction (Vikings or Bretonian).

Classic Citadel GW Marauder Giant on 60mm base.

This GW / Citadel giant below is a bit small at about 8.5cm tall on a 50mm base and will either need a sabot base or he will become a creature in SAGA AoM.

The detail on this Reaper Fire giant is excellent and I use him as part of my Viking warband in SAGA AoM.  He is not that tall at 6cm to the top of is head and 9cm to the top of his sword but he is bulky.

Fire Giant by Reaper Bones on 60mm round base.

Some of the Wizkids Frost giants will need some base flocking and perhaps some detailing, they are on 75mm round bases and between 10 to 11cm tall.

This KoW giant has yet to be assembled but it should be the largest of the lot at 19cm tall!

Here some giants I have with a Greek mythology theme that will work for Greek or Trojan armies in SAGA AoM and / or Chaos. Both will soon have round MDF bases (75mm and 60mm respectively).

Cyclops by Safari, 12cm tall

Minotaur by Safari, 9cm tall
These trolls are not big enough to be giants but they are very close at about 7cm tall on 50mm bases, they are classified as Creatures in SAGA AoM and will get used with Viking or Orc / Goblin armies.

Undead Giants

Here are some skeleton Giants,  the RAl Partha one is finished, the others are on my painting table for the SAGA AoM Undead Legion faction.

I call the Ral Partha skeleton Giant who is on a 50mm base and 6cm tall a Demi-Giant as his base size is not large enough under the rules to be a giant, but with the 60mm sabot base he is now on he qualifies.  Using the smaller base (50mm) he would be a Creature.

My Ral Partha Demi-Giant

I also have a  Grenadier Fantasy #25 Lord of Death Skeleton Grim Reaper figure I am painting that similar in size to the Ral Partha giant above as it is 6cm tall and on a 50mm square bases. I will likely use him as Creature.

The Reaper skeletal  giant below is a bit larger at 7cm tall and he to could be a creature or a giant depending on what size base I use (50mm or 60mm), I will likely use a 60mm round or square  base to make him a giant.  His built in base is 6cm long and he is shown below placed diagonally on a 50mm x 50mm square base.

mine is on the painting table.

No doubt that this Reaper Bones Colossus is a giant, he just fits on a 100mm round base once I get him painted. He is 12cm tall crouched down.

Reaper Bones Colossus, hopefully the one I own
looks this good after I paint it.

While technically not a giant this Skeleton Mammoth of the Undead Legion #1 by Grenadier (now OOP) with 3 skeleton riders could fulfill that role in SAGA AoM as the base size is more than large enough at 50mm x 100mm and it is 10cm tall.

This Mammoth above  seems a bit overly dull and lacks definition between colours, possibly it had a spray of light brown paint misted over it especially on and in the crew compartment and the skeleton crew.  But I think if I pick out some of the details (metal areas, horn, helmets, bows etc.), highlight ares by dry-brushing, using some glazes and or washes it should look just fine. Perhaps it may looks as good as the one below.

A fine example of painted Grenadier

I also just received one of these the Mirliton Titan skeleton giant figures, it is an old Grenadier casting  but the quality stands the test of time and he is large, around 15cm tall. The pictures below are from another gamer's collection.

This is one of my Tomb Kings Giants who is 8.5cm tall on a 50mm square base, he is technically not on a large enough base to be a giant in SAGA AoM but with a square 60mm sabot base like I have used for the Ral Partha skeleton giant he will work as a giant.  There is figure size inflation with giants and many GW giants are now on the small size.
