Who Let the Dogs Out!

Here are a couple of new companies (bases) painted for my Fantastic Battles 28mm Dark Elf army:  Whelp Master with two Chaos War-hounds.  Obligatory sounds effects

The Dark Elf figures are Marauder Warhammer Fantasy Battle (WFB) 1990 Whelp Masters and Whelp Mistress, and the Chaos War-hounds are also WFB figures made by Citadel but from over a decade later.  The asking price for the original Marauder 1990 war-hounds was just too much.

My two bases of Whelp Masters with War-hounds

As you can see the bases still need to be flocked, I will use a mix of brown ballast and green static grass.

I am working on a third base, trying to locate some more Chaos War-hounds to accompany my remaining Whelp Master (this one made by Citadel in 1989s)  that is yet to be painted.  The third pair of war-hounds may well be 3-D printed unless I find some stored away.

1980s Citadel Whelp Master

My third Whelp Master will probably look similar to the example bellow, with some purple clothing / trim added when I finish painting him.

Citadel Beast master, not my painting

As noted earlier, unfortunately the original War-hounds / Chaos hounds that came with the Whelp Masters (shown bellow) are selling for very high prices on eBay so I opted fir  substitutes, Citadel metal Chaos War hounds from around 2003.  Frankly my substitutes look more vicious anyway!

I do have a spare three headed dog (Cerberus?)  figure that might work as a Chaos War-Hound for my third Welp Master.  Not sure who made this one, bought him pained second hand.

Chaos Cerberus?

Then there is this Citadel metal miniature bellow: a Vampire Counts Doom Wolf (pack leader for Dire Wolves) circa 1999, it might fit in, although the Vampire Lord might want him for his army!

On the other hand these 3D printed option are tempting:

The Fantastic Battles stats card I have created for this company is shown bellow.

Here are the original WFB 3rd edition stats for the Dark Elf Whelp Master and war hounds.

The composition of the bases looks good with the dark elf in between the rearing hounds. Those chaos hound models are 6th edition warhammer fantasy, circa 2002/3, mine are painted in a very similar scheme

Thanks I have updated the blog to show them as 6th Ed. Chaos War Hounds from 2003. Wish I could get two more but they are OOP and expensive with postage so I am looking into 3D print options. I will post some pictures when the bases are flocked and the 3rd base is finished.
